Learn to Play Piano - Musical Signs

Musical signs form part of the code needed to read music. The signs can be fun to learn and rewarding as your knowledge increases with each new sign learned. You will in effect be learning a foreign language and learning how much fun music can be to learn. You will be joining a small group of people in the world who understand music. The group that understand music is very small indeed. Think about how many people you know and how many understand music or even play a musical instrument.

Knowing the notes in music is necessary as are the various times notes are played for. These are the foundations of music; however there is more to music than basic notes. Music is played with feeling, with different volumes at different times, with vigor, with sadness, happiness and a myriad of different ways.

A number of different musical signs are associated with the music and are put into the music where necessary to represent the mood of the music, the volume to be played, aggression, joyfully or merrily, with sadness, with happiness. All of these and more are contained within the musical code that must to be learned to understand music.

The musician will have a major effect on the music being played. Some musicians are naturally quiet and subdued, some extrovert. This can affect the way that music will be played. Similarly the mood of a musician will change daily. This will affect the manner in which the music will be played. Musicians allow for this by undertaking a series of exercises before playing, clearing the mind as well as physical stresses to eliminate the wrong type of mood whilst playing. Musical signs state the manner the music should be played regardless of the musicians mood.

The musical signs used in music are derived from the Italian and Spanish languages and can be written in full or abbreviated to a single letter in some cases. The most common signs are shown below.

Pianissimo (p) = soft (pp) = very soft (ppp) = extra soft

Fortissimo (f) = loud (ff) = very loud (fff) extra loud

Giocoso (g) = joyfully or merrily

Forzando (fz) = forcefully, sudden, emphasis

Allegro = fast, lively or joyfully

Spirit = with spirit or life

Delicato = delicate

Repetizone, replica = repeat

There are hundreds of signs in music, all having their own meanings. Many are similar in meaning and many will never be seen by the average musician. The number learned by the average musician will depend on the type of music usually played. Particular types of music will favor particular signs that are used predominately.

Extraordinary Musical Instruments

Not a lot of people know that there are a lot of weird instruments that exist in the music world. Not everything that makes beautiful music is beautiful themselves. Some are so strange looking that you'll have to take a second and third look at the instrument to figure out how in the world it came to produce melodies and harmonies.

And we're not talking about misshapen guitars and freaky-looking flutes here. We're talking about seriously strange and borderline sick instruments that'll make you wonder what genius or seriously twisted mind ever came up with this idea.

The Kalashnikov Guitar

These guitars are made from AK-47 rifles. These re-done guitars still feature the rifle's main base including body, handle and trigger. On one end you can still hold it up to pretend aim. And on the other end you can adjust the guitar strings to prepare for a session jam. Truly one of the weird instruments of the world, not to mention quite disturbing too. I guess you can say that it's deadly in more ways than one.

The Tsabona

This magnificently instrument hails from Greece. It made its debut approximately 2000 years ago. These weird instruments are very similar to the Scottish bagpipes. It plays a total of six notes.

The magnificence of this instrument is that its "bag" is made from goat skin. Thank goodness the mouthpiece is non-goat! Try breathing in and out of a super geriatric dead goat. Freaky!

The Picasso Guitar

This guitar is also known as the multi-necked guitar. This instrument features one guitar body with four strangely angled protruding necks. In all, the necks come up with a total of 42 strings.

Although this guitar was made especially for guitarist Pat Methany, it seems like it was better suited for an alien with four odd angled necks and four hands. These truly weird instruments are fascinating and creepy at the same time.

The Sea Organ

Who knew the sea could play a musical instrument? The seas of Zadar in Croatia do. And they do it well too.

This sea organ is the first of its kind in the world. It is shaped to look like normal steps or stairs by the sea. It is over seventy meters long. And it has 35 organ pipes build under the concrete steps built by the shore. The wind from the sea air and the pushing tides power the organ. And since these two are unpredictable at best, the musical concertos that result are always fresh and new. This strange instrument is a real treat for the senses and a testament to the magnificence of the human mind.

The Uberorgan

This weird instrument was thought of and executed by the artist, Tim Hawkinson. This instrument looks like a series of translucent giant jellyfish connected to each other by their equally gigantic tentacles. These jellyfish like structures make a sound similar to a bagpipe, a very large bagpipe that is. This extreme visual and audio art was originally made for the 15,000 square foot gallery of the MassMOCA. So you can only imagine how very imposing it is.

Since its inception, this massive piece of strangeness has also travelled to New York City and to the Getty Museum in Los Angeles.

It also explains the green color she has as well as how she ended up in a tragic ending that all of the viewers would simply sympathize with her. The show also features Galinda, the good witch, who is the roommate of Elphaba and how these two characters were entangled with each other. The story also shed light on why the characters on the Wizard of Oz got on their places and also show how the ruby shoes enter the story and of course the flying monkeys.

The story begins with a flashback of the beginning with the Green Elixir who gives Elphaba her unique green skin color. It also shows that the mother of Elphaba has cheated on her husband that also explains why Elphaba becomes green because of the nature which she comes from. Because of that, Frex the husband of Elphaba' mother got ashamed of her and send her to Shiz University as a mere attendant. However, as soon as she arrived in the said university, everything has changed as the professor has discovered her flair and ability in magic.

The daughter of Frex is also sent in the university along with Elphaba where Frex gave a pair of slippers to her. All along Elphaba is thinking that she will be staying with her sister but ended in being together with Galinda in the same room. That room has marked the beginning of their wonderful relationship and as expected it becomes a rocky one. As expected also, Elphaba loves her classes so much though it is expected that she will also encounter some problems inside the university. She also met her talking animal professor that make her aware that there are problems happening in the animal inside the Oz where it seems that the animals have forgotten to speak.

This is just the synopsis of the story that eventually will lead to the entrance of the characters of the Wizard of Oz story.
